What’s in a name?
People often ask me where the name Aviina comes from and what it means. Shortly after my family and I moved from London to Hong Kong, my twin toddlers began to invent their own words for their favourite things. One of those was rain, especially the glorious tropical downpours that punctuated our first summer in the sub tropics.
As someone who loves to make things happen and as a Scot who loves rain (yes really!), I named my company Aviina to embody the spirit of the rainmaker and their role in driving growth. Whether you need a deluge, a sprinkle or a regular watering at sundown, let us bring some hydration to your party and help you and your business flourish!
About Karen Taylor Crowe
I’m Karen Taylor Crowe, a long time executive in the software and services industry. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, I first packed a couple of bags and jumped on a plane at 16 years old to fly to Berlin for a Student Exchange program with AFS – The American Field Service.
That wanderlust and my fascination for other cultures and languages never left me and I’ve since lived, worked and studied in nine different countries! I have been blessed with many opportunities throughout my career to work with an incredibly wide range of colleagues and clients at the forefront of big data, enterprise software, SaaS and cloud.
Many aspects of what we now call AI, for example Natural Language Search, Machine Learning, predictive analytics and data visualisation were part of the multiple initiatives I’ve helped deliver over the years. My curiosity and enthusiasm for new horizons – whether technological, commercial or geographic – has fuelled my life journey. The satisfaction that comes from building new teams, businesses and connections never dulls. I like a challenge and as a pragmatic Scot, I know what it takes to hit the ground running and get results quickly even whilst keeping an eye on the horizon.

After a career spanning several European countries, Japan and Hong Kong, I recently moved to Chicago, Illinois with my family. I now work with executive teams and business owners to shape and deliver growth plans for immediate impact and sustainable value. Balancing strategic, long range thinking with operational agility, I help companies drive growth through product innovation, geographic expansion and business model diversification.
As an ‘experienced generalist’ and former GM, I understand deeply the challenges of business owners and senior executives in fast growing scale ups. Balancing day to day operations and organisational leadership with growth initiatives and strategic planning is an art not a science. Sometimes you just need an extra pair of hands, a fresh perspective, or some additional strength on your executive bench.
In summary, I have over 15 years of industry experience bringing new products to market across Europe and Asia. Working primarily in the legal content and software industries, Karen has particular experience adapting global products for local markets and establishing dedicated product management functions and processes.Karen is Pragmatic Marketing qualified.
